Responsibilities

Other Legislation

As well as its roles and responsibilities under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act, 1976 and the Native Title Act, 1993, the Northern Land Council also has a variety of functions under other legislation, mostly passed by the Northern Territory Legislative Assembly.

These include:

		Aboriginal Land Act 1978 (NT)
		Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act (NT)
		Parks & Wildlife Commission Act - formerly Conservation Commission Act 1980 (NT)
		Cobourg Peninsula Aboriginal Land Sanctuary & Marine Park Act 1981 (NT)
		Pastoral Land Act 1992 (NT)
		Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park Act 1989 (NT)
		Local Government Act 1993 (NT)
		Fisheries Act

The NLC also has responsibilities under the federal  Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
