A wide variety of Government departments do business
on Aboriginal land, in the areas of construction, infrastructure
and service provision.
A major agreement in 1999 between the Northern
Land Council and the Northern Territory Government involved
providing access to the land corridor required for the
Alice Springs to Darwin railway. The Northern
Land Council is now closely involved in the training and employment
of Aboriginal people on the railway project within its geographical
area.

The Northern
Land Council was also instrumental in negotiating a native title
settlement between Darwin's Larrakia people and the NT Government
in December 2001, which will see the urban development of
250 hectares in the Rosebery/Bellamack area, part of Darwin's Palmerston
region.
As part of the overall development the Larrakia
Development Corporation is in charge of constructing 390 residential
units on 50 hectares of land, which will become the new suburb of
Darla. This $24 million project will lead to significant employment
and training opportunities for Larrakia people in the housing and
construction industry.

Examples of other work carried out by the Northern
Land Council are:

lighthouse leases,
|
 |
automatic weather station leases,
