The NLC is at the forefront of Native Title work and is progressing numerous applications, agreements and settlement negotiations. An experienced Anthropologist is required to prepare ‘connection reports’ and materials to assist with ongoing Native Title proceedings.
The successful applicants will be responsible for undertaking high level Anthropological research and report writing to ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is held by the Northern Land Council in relation to Traditional Owners and their land interests.
You will possess a Degree in Anthropology or related discipline, and comprehensive post graduate experience in self-directed anthropological research and authorship of high level reports, with extensive field research experience with Aboriginal people.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work under pressure within a multi-disciplinary team and assist with consultations with Traditional Owners is required.
Applicants should have a demonstrated understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976, and the Native Title Act 1993, with the capacity to articulate the rights and interests of Aboriginal people within the NLC’s area of responsibility. Both positions are based in Darwin, however significant travel to remote areas using 4WD vehicles is involved so possession of a ‘C’ class drivers licence and ability to drive safely is essential.
