Senior Governance, Planning and Development Officer (CD05)
The primary objective of the role is to support Native Title Holders who are party to the Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) with Seafarms for Project Sea Dragon, to achieve their social, cultural, environmental and economic objectives. Project Sea Dragon is a large-scale commercial prawn farm proposed to be built at Legune Station, approximately 106kms east from Kununurra on the Northern Territory side of the state border.
You will work closely with Native Title groups to establish locally appropriate governance arrangements, undertake development planning and facilitate project development outcomes through the preparation of short-term and long-term development strategies.
As a member of the NLC’s Community Planning and Development Unit, you will work with NLC and Seafarms staff to undertake consultation and liaison with external advisors, project partners, government and other stakeholders in meeting obligations for the project.
This position requires a committed and skilled individual with exceptional experience in participatory planning processes and meeting facilitation, and in working in an Aboriginal or international development context involving capacity building and governance.
The successful applicant will possess Tertiary qualifications in community development or other relevant fields, and proficiencies in project management and implementation.
Applicants will need to demonstrate well-developed skills in interpersonal and cross-cultural communication, including negotiation, consultation, flexibility, resilience and conflict management, as well as the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships.
Knowledge of the NLC and of the cultural, political, economic and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Northern Australia is desirable.
A willingness to work and travel to remote localities as well as possession of a current ‘manual‘ driver’s licence is required, as is the ability to drive a 4WD vehicle safely.
