Salary: AS06/PO2 ($71,191 - $85,075 pa + entitlements) dependent on skills & experience

The Kakadu Joint Management Officer plays a key role in providing park-based capacity for the NLC to effectively perform its statutory functions and obligations to support and represent the interests of Aboriginal Traditional Owners, in relation to the use and management of Kakadu National Park (KNP).

You will be required to undertake consultations with Traditional Owners and other affected Aboriginal groups to ascertain and express their wishes with respect to the management, conservation and development of KNP. This will include planning, prioritising, and documenting consultation processes and reporting outcomes for Park management development programs and projects.  

Applicants must have the ability to effectively liaise, engage and foster collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, commercial interests, Indigenous agencies and groups.

Sound interpersonal communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide advocacy, advice and assistance to Traditional Owners and other Aboriginal people and to represent the NLC in park-related forums is required.  

The successful applicant will have experience and skills in participatory planning, with an understanding of the requirements surrounding the formal joint management of protected areas in Australia. Possession of professional competence in natural resource management, ecology, park management, cultural heritage protection, tourism or related fields in a cross-cultural context is desirable.

Applicants should possess a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and society and the issues affecting Aboriginal people in Northern Australia, and the ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal People.    

The position will involve significant travel to remote areas and possession of a driver’s licence and ability to safely drive 4WD drive vehicles is essential.
