Western Top End Project Officer (NT21) - 6 Weeks Fixed Term Contract
The Regional Project Officer has a crucial role in advancing the objectives of the NLC’s Caring for Country Branch by working collaboratively with Traditional Owners and other relevant Aboriginal people to support the management of their customary land and sea estates, in accordance with their priorities and aspirations.
You will be working with Aboriginal land and sea managers to develop and implement annual work plans and budgets, review outcomes and solve operational challenges as a critical member of a small team of Darwin and remotely based staff delivering regional Caring for Country programs.
The successful applicant will possess qualifications in natural and cultural resource management or a related field and/or experience and demonstrated practical skills in supporting on the ground land management projects in partnership with Aboriginal people.
Applicants should have project management skills with a focus on administration, technical knowledge, logistics, budget planning, monitoring and reporting, and maintaining program assets.
Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and issues with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people is essential, as is a track record in developing and mentoring people in a cross cultural context.
Significant travel to remote areas is involved so possession of a ‘C’ Class driver’s licence, the ability to drive 4WD vehicles safely, and to travel by air and vessel is required.
