It is with deep sadness that the Northern Land Council acknowledges the passing of Mr David Dalaithngu.

“Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and his Arnhem land community at this time,” said Northern Land Council Chairman Mr Samuel Bush-Blanasi.

“He’ll long be remembered for his songs, his dance, his artistic flair and his smile that invited you into his Aboriginal world.”

Mr Bush-Blanasi said Mr Dalaithngu generously shared his love for family, country and culture for over four decades.

“His great contribution was bringing an understanding of Aboriginal values to a broad audience, for over 40 years; highlighting the importance of family, country and story-telling to Aboriginal Australians.

“He was a true story-teller, using every opportunity to help Australians learn more about what is important to Australia’s first people.

“Importantly, he was an inspiration to countless young Aboriginal people across the nation.

“We thank him for his legacy; an enormous body of film production that will remind us forever of his talent and important messages for all Australians.

“This is a very sad time. We have lost a father, a grandfather and a great artist from Ramingining.”
