NLC Statement: Passing of Mr B Marika AM

NLC Chair, CEO, Council and staff are saddened by the passing of Mr B Marika AM and extend their deepest condolences to his family.

Mr Marika was a respected elder, senior leader, a tireless advocate for Aboriginal land rights, and a proud champion for his people. His lifelong commitment to his culture and community has left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.

His passing is a great loss to his family, the Rirratjingu people, and the wider Yolŋu community. Our thoughts are with all those mourning his loss at this difficult time.

As we continue the work of protecting and advancing land and sea rights, we honour the contribution Mr Marika made throughout his life.

He will be remembered with great respect and he will be deeply missed.
