NLC Statement: YiSSA closure
The Northern Land Council stands in support of YiSSA residents and opposed to the closure of the facility in Darwin.
People from right across the Northern Territory use this service so they can access critical health, legal, domestic and family violence and social services that are not always available in their own communities.
Moving residents to Batchelor, 100kms from any of these services is not a suitable alternative.
This impacts all of us, including some of our most vulnerable Territorians.
What is clear is the voices and needs of Aboriginal people, along with practical solutions and investment continue to be ignored and kicked around by this NT Government.
We will continue to support and work with Aboriginal organisations on the ground, as well as with all levels of Government to find a way forward.
