The Northern Land Council welcomes Ms Jody Broun’s appointment as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

Her appointment will mean that Ms Broun, a Yindjibarndi woman from the Pilbara in Western Australia, will become the most senior Indigenous person in the Australian public service.

Earlier this week NLC Chairman Samuel Bush-Blanasi wrote to Ms Broun congratulating her, noting the historic nature of the appointment.

“Not only will we now have an Indigenous man, the Hon Ken Wyatt MP, as Minister for Indigenous Australians, but also an Indigenous woman will be in charge of the NIAA, the lead Federal government agency providing services to Indigenous Australians,” said Mr Bush-Blanasi.

Mr Bush-Blanasi invited Ms Broun to “Call him at any time” and said that, along with NLC CEO Joe Martin-Jard, he was “Looking forward to working with you and supporting you in your role.”

Mr Bush-Blanasi invited Ms Broun to the next meeting of the Full Council of the NLC that has been delayed due to COVID and looked forward to Ms Broun visiting the NLC’s offices in Darwin and elsewhere in the NLC area when next she was in the Top End.

Mr Bush-Blanasi ended with a note of personal congratulation to Ms Broun that reflected the historic significance of her appointment for Aboriginal people right across Australia.

“This is a great day!”
