Monitoring and Evaluating Community Planning & Development

Monitoring is like doing a check-up of your car – you need to make sure the tires and engine are good so you can keep driving. Monitoring helps the NLC keep on track and heading towards goals set by Traditional Owners.

NLC is building a monitoring system to track progress of its Community Planning and Development (CP&D) Program. Right now, the NLC is trialling three monitoring approaches. These trials help Traditional Owners and NLC work out the best way to measure the success and value of community development projects.

DjarranDjarrany Native Title Holders, NLC and La Trobe University will measure well being at Legune to see the long-term impact of Project Sea Dragon.

The three monitoring approaches being trialled are:

  • Checking-up to keep on track (looking at social and wellbeing measures)
  • Participatory monitoring (working with Traditional Owners to find good ways to tell the community development story)
  • Expanded community development process (based on existing monitoring process used by the CP&D team)
